Importing Theta Tokens into the Theta Wallet: A Step-by-Step Guide
As a Theta network user, you are probably familiar with the unique experience of interacting with your tokens in the MetaMask browser wallet. However, you may encounter issues when importing your Theta tokens from the Theta mainnet into MetaMask. In this article, we will walk you through the process of importing Theta tokens using the required contract address.
What is a Metamask surface?
Before we dive into the solution, let’s quickly understand what Metamask is. The Metamask wallet has two surfaces: one for importing and exporting Ethereum-based tokens (like Ether) and another for interacting with the Theta network. When you import Theta tokens from the mainnet into MetaMask, you are essentially exposing them to the Ethereum public network.
Why can’t I “import” my Theta tokens?
The reason you can’t import your Theta tokens directly into MetaMask is that you need to obtain a contract address for your Theta token contract. This contract address is required to verify and authorize any Ether transactions involving your Theta token.
Import Theta tokens using the required contract address
To successfully import your Theta tokens, follow these steps:
- Open your Metamask browser wallet: Make sure you are logged into your MetaMask wallet.
- Click “View” or press Ctrl + I (Windows/Linux) / Command + I (Mac) to toggle the view mode. A list of all available accounts in your wallet will appear.
- Search for Theta Token Contract: Type “Theta Token Contract Address” in the search bar and press Enter. You should see a list of contracts related to the Theta token. Look for the one called
0x...(where...is the contract address).
- Copy Contract Address: Select the contract address from the list and copy it.
- Open Theta Mainnet Explorer: Return to the MetaMask browser wallet and click “Go to Theta Mainnet Explorer”.
- Search for your Theta token contract
: Type “Theta token contract address” in the search bar and press Enter. The Theta mainnet explorer will display a list of all available contracts related to your Theta token.
- Find the contract address: Look for the contract address you copied earlier (e.g. “0x…”). You should see it next to the contract name.
Import your Theta tokens
Once you find the required contract address, click on it and select “Import” from the drop-down menu. MetaMask will now attempt to import your Theta tokens into your account.
If successful, you will be able to view your imported Theta tokens in your Metamask wallet.
